Imagine you live in a cozy hut. It is right next to a river. You are surrounded by lush green trees. You wake up in the morning to the sound of rushing water. Warm sunshine is streaming through your window. The birds are chirping. It’s a beautiful day.

You reach out for a glass of water…but….what if…there is no water? Now imagine how your day will look like if you have to first go out of your hut to collect the water from the river and then boil it using firewood before you can drink it.

Most of us enjoy a continuous supply of clean drinking water but the situation described above is an everyday reality for one-third of the world’s population. They do not have access to safely managed water and 80% of these live in rural areas. The conventional solution, i.e. centralized water supply, results in drinking water loss, is expensive, vulnerable to failure, and is not fit for rural areas. People living in rural areas and remote communities therefore have to use water sources that can be at large distances and/or are contaminated.

To deal with this challenge, BOSAQ was founded. We are a circular water technology company, headquartered in Deinze. We are a small team working towards a common goal: To build a world where everyone has access to clean and safe drinking water. :

We use Belgian expertise to build and continuously innovate, the decentralized water technology solution; Q-Drop.

Q-Drop is a stand-alone, plug-and-play, modular water technology unit that is powered by renewable energy and is 100% CO2 neutral. It purifies any source of water (river, lake, rainwater, borehole) into high-quality drinking water while requiring minimal maintenance. It uses AI and IoT for remote monitoring and predictive maintenance. The most important innovation of Q-Drop is Electroclean, which eliminates the use of chemicals (handling, storage, and transportation) by producing all the needed chemicals for periodic membrane cleaning on-site to maximize performance sustainably.

Q-Drop can be easily deployed anywhere across the globe. we have had successful projects across Europe, Africa, and Latin America. To date, we have provided around 15.000 people (including children) with easy access to clean and safe drinking water while eliminating carbon emissions, ~5.000 tons per year. Access to clean drinking water has a direct impact on a communities’ health, and overall quality of life, but also on gender equality, quality education, climate, and much more, impacting 13 out of 17 SDGs.

Water produced by Q-Drop meets all the drinking water standards of EU legislation as well as the local regulations so that the people living in the remote forests of Suriname, the schoolchildren in remote hilly areas of Rwanda, people in remote areas of South Africa, and civilians in the war-torn Ukraine all have access to the same quality of water as you and I.
