“Transforming Society Together.” That is the mission of Sweco, a leading advisor to governments and businesses. Our 2,700 engineers, architects, and other experts co-create the living environment of tomorrow with our clients and partners. Day after day, we take on the enormous challenge of helping to make our society more sustainable, leveraging all our expertise, creativity, and innovative strength.
We contribute to planning and building resilient and healthy cities and villages. We design future-proof buildings, high-quality facilities, vibrant public spaces, and efficient energy and water systems.
We develop climate adaptation projects that make our environment resilient to climate change while enhancing biodiversity: reducing soil sealing, restoring river valleys, promoting nature development and management, and greening urban areas.
We design robust infrastructure for sustainable mobility and freight transport: new tram and metro lines, cycling networks, waterborne transport, and electrification of road traffic. We modernize road networks with great care for traffic safety, reduced and circular material use, and long durability.
We develop high-performance energy systems that enable the transition to a fossil-free world. We strengthen the electricity grid, build wind farms and battery parks, design district heating networks, and conceptualize future infrastructure for green hydrogen.
We support industries in their transition to a fossil-free and circular economy—from the chemical sector to metal industries, logistics, pharmaceuticals, and food production. Our projects contribute to material and resource reuse, decarbonization, water circularity, and soil management. We help Belgian industries reconcile competitiveness and growth with sustainability and care for their surroundings.
Last but not least, we assist companies and governments in mapping and implementing their journey toward sustainability and climate neutrality. We strongly focus on digitalization to accelerate the sustainability transition. Naturally, we lead by example. Sweco aims to achieve climate neutrality in its own operations by 2030 and encourages partners and suppliers to also embrace sustainability.
The strength of Sweco lies in our people. Driven by their dedication to building a better world, they commit to fostering collaborative relationships with clients and stakeholders. Thanks to our collective, multidisciplinary expertise, we can devise integrated solutions for the most complex challenges.
To enhance the overall sustainability of our projects, we have developed our own “Sustainability Compass,” a synthesis of international standards. It helps us define comprehensive sustainability goals and monitor project outcomes. Using this compass, we aim to optimize both the quality and the impact of our projects:
- Impact on the planet (climate, air, soil, water, biodiversity, natural resources)
- Impact on people (health, well-being, safety, social inclusion)
- Impact on prosperity (life-cycle costs and benefits, economic development, circular and fair economy)
- Technical quality (resilience and adaptability, energy efficiency and security, material use, nature-inclusive design)
- Spatial quality (location and accessibility, spatial organization and experience, cultural identity)
- Process quality (project cycle, participation, future-oriented approaches)
Sustainability is embedded in Sweco’s DNA. As a frontrunner, we feel socially responsible to generate the greatest possible positive impact in each of our 15,000 projects, together with our public and private clients. Transforming Society Together.
